OUGD603 - Extended Practice: Evaluation of briefs to date

At this moment in time I feel really happy with the amount of work I have managed to complete alongside writing my COP3 essay and carrying out research for the practical element. There are several briefs which I would like to extend in the New Year:

Tigerprint: I would like to design a range of stationery and be able to approach shops with my designs and perhaps have stock in a selection of different outlets.

Intern: I quite like the idea of extending this brief and actually completing the first edition of 'A Day In The Life' although I am not sure how many others would be interested in doing this so perhaps I could do it on my own or with a couple of other group members.

FE and ED Taster Day: In the new year Ellen and I are hoping to work with the progression ambassador team to set up even more briefs with students from FE and ED.

Holbeck Urban Village: I would love to extend this brief and perhaps design the packaging that the tree would come in if it was found within a store. I feel as though at the moment it is strong enough to be used in my portfolio, but by having the packaging it will feel more like a finished product.

Tom and Claire Wedding Stationery: This is an ongoing brief which I have touched on on my blog slightly but not in great depth. I am looking forward to meeting up with my clients in the new year and discussing ideas to make considerable progress.

Then there are others which I am happy with and won't be extending any further:

DSM: I feel as though this brief was something different to have in my portfolio, however I am not sure whether I feel it would be necessary to elongate it even more as I got everything out of it that I hoped for.

LCA Christmas Cards: Obviously Christmas will have been and gone by the time we are back in college. The only way I would extend this brief is if marketing required specific design work with a similar style.

DR.ME: I feel as though I got a lot out of this one day brief and wouldn't need to extend it. I am really pleased with what Sam and I were able to achieve in such a short amount of time.

I am looking forward to starting some new briefs when my COP3 is complete and will also be updating all of my written briefs and posting them to my blog when I have organised them all. I feel as though the more collaborative briefs I do, the better! As this is how it will be when working in industry as there will always be a client to answer to, and I will always be working with other designers unless i was to set up on my own which is unlikely straight away I think.

OUGD603 - Extended Practice: Tony Broomhead Holbeck Urban Village (Feedback)

Today we received some feedback via Twitter from OS31. I started following them the day of the workshop so that I can keep up to date with their projects. I responded to their tweet today as well and we continued to get several more responses.

OUGD603 - Extended Practice: Tony Broomhead Holbeck Urban Village (Emails)

Below are some of the emails which have been exchanged between Tony Broomhead and I since the workshop. It has been really good to be in constant contact since and it will also make it easier for me to approach him in the new year about the possibility of work.

OUGD603 - Extended Practice: Christmas Card Brief (Letter of Thanks)

Today Ellen and I received a letter of thanks from the Principal. This means an awful lot and is something which I will keep forever. It is really rewarding knowing how much our work has been appreciated and definitely makes all of the hard work worthwhile.

OUGD603 - Extended Practice: Tony Broomhead Holbeck Urban Village (Visit)

All of these photographs were taken yesterday. Ellen and I went into college first thing to collect the tree from woodwork and pay for it. We were absolutely made up with the result!

We then took it into the studio and used the string Ellen and I had left over from our Christmas cards. We used brown, red and green and alternated for each tier. We then used silver paperclips and fed them through each piece of string.

We then got a taxi to Holbeck Urban Village and met Steve who was in charge as well as the photographer. Below are all of the photographs we took while we were there to document our experience.

Ellen and I hung our business cards on there and we also asked if anyone in the studio had one which they would like to hang too. Alex Dyson was the only person who had one, so the three of us hung our cards and when we arrived we asked the photographer if he would like to hang his on it as well.

Below are some photographs of Steve who helped to organise all of this for us. He asked us to place the trees on the shelf behind reception before we left so that everyone could clearly see them and interact with them. He also said that he will be using the trees for some events within Marshall Mill.

Here is a lift of all of the different studios within Marshall Mill.

After we had been to Marshall Mill we had a little walk around the village.

This is the tree that OS31 designed in the garden.

On our way home Ellen and I walked past an architect firm which we often walk past when we go home. I decided to quickly go in and ask them about their graphic design team. I left one of my business cards with them. I think the receptionist was a bit startled that I had just gone in their without making an appointment but I love the idea of working with architects to build miniature prototypes.
